Depending on how much area the project entails this may be a major project. You can use wood chips successfully when youre on a slope but you have to be mindful of the weight. Purchase enough mulch to cover your slope at least 4 inches deep. Some shredded bark mulches are byproducts from other industries and are considered environmentally friendly. Heavier wood chips and wood nuggets are going to do better than lighter ones. I am lucky to have a row of long needle pines along the property line.

I guess I would pull the weeds out but Id be sure to wear gloves. Leaf mould is one of the best mulch types too but in most cases the gardener would have done much better to save the money and keep the leaves in the garden over winter where they can protect the soil. Shredded bark is one of the most common and least expensive types of mulch. Like grass clippings fallen pine needles can also be mixed-up with leaf mulch.
